Changing Rooms – Behind the scenes (Swansea)

This design has been in our minds for months and it is finally real! We have loved creating the rooms for the brand new Changing Rooms on Channel 4 and now that the cat is out of the bag (or should we say the wigs are on the wall!) we thought you deserved a little glimpse of what it was like behind the scenes. So here is a look at some of our process and some of the the fun we got up to.

Behind the scenes - much fun was had, we got a little sunburn (ouch) and made some new friends for life.

Claire and Jo, the lovely neighbours, gave us a brief on what we should do to make the best of the room. What a wonderful pair of party girls.

Before we started the room was feeling overwhelmed and in need of new storage and some personality.

As is often the case, we began with colour and then moved on to function, reconfiguring the layout of the space to add in more wardrobe space.

Oh the fun that we had with those blond wigs! Anna was always game for a laugh and our feet were torn to shreds by our new shoes.

We re-imagined Lisa's existing dressing table, to help her feel fabulous. Adding a new round mirror and handles and updating the colour.

The new colour palette gave our base for the scheme and we layered in velvet, jumbo cord, shag pile, hair art and handmade clay chains to embelish the highstreet lights.

The ruffle ribbon mirror was simply painted and ribbon ruffle added with hot glue gun. and here is a pic of the test we did in our studio for the air drying clay chains (that on the speedy shoot, didn't quite dry in time)

A little trial and error is all part of the creative process and we hope you enjoyed watching us get a few bits wrong. Perfection is not the goal. Bravery and clarity of statement is the aim, to give the room a new bold identity that felt amazing. We hope you had as much fun watching it as we had designing the rooms and filming the show.
